One of God’s Finest Human Beings.

She is One of God’s Finest Examples

Her name is Irena (Sendlerowa) Sendler. Irena was not only brave and courageous, but she did what less than 3% of others will darer to do – protect others even when they are  in danger of losing their own life.

Irena Sendler, born in 1910, in Warsaw, Poland, was raised by her parents to respect and love people regardless of their ethnicity or social status. She grew up in the town of Otwock, Poland. Her father, a physician, died from typhus that he contracted during an epidemic in 1917. He was the only doctor in his town of Otwock, near Warsaw who would treat the poor, mostly Jewish community of this tragic disease. As he was dying, he told 7-year-old Irena, “If you see someone drowning you must try to rescue them, even if you cannot swim.”

When World War II started in 1939, Irena immediately started protecting her Jewish friends in Warsaw. She worked as a social services director in Warsaw. She would make false documents for Jews in the city and had already started gathering her famous rescue network. When the Warsaw Ghetto was erected in 1940, Irena saw the danger ahead. When liquidation started in 1942, Irena and her network accelerated the rescue process. The number 2,500, in connection with children rescued, is estimated by Irena and historians to be of this division. About 800 were taken from the Warsaw Ghetto, many of which were orphans. Approximately the same number were in orphanages and convents, Irena and her network assisted in the hiding of these children.

Also, while working with the underground organization, Zegota, Irena and her network would assist in the hiding of about 900 children and many adults in homes around the city. Irena was caught by the Gestapo and almost killed in 1943. She escaped Pawiak prison and stayed in hiding for most of the rest of the war. Irena received world-wide recognition after the Life in a Jar project first visited Poland. In the 1960s she had been recognized by Yad Vashem but the Communist authorities agitated her continuously.

Irena passed on in 2008. Her legacy is carried on in many ways, including the Life in Jar play, which is presented around North America and the world.

Who is your God?

god forgives

“To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
― C.S. Lewis

It’s Sunday and I woke up with so many thoughts about God this morning.  These thoughts often come in the form of questions.

When I woke up this morning the debate inside my head was “is God, a loving God or a punishing God?”

Mu questions are not to question God.  My questions are more of a self examinationt of how I perceive our creator.

My thoughts this morning turned to Moses on Mount Sinai where he received the 10 Commandments.  Whrn God gifted moses with the stone tablets He had done so with all the dramatic effects of the 1950, epic film by Cecil B. DeMille, shot in VistaVision, The 10 Commandments..

The scene was powerful. The setting was filled  with foreboding and frigteninhg depictions of entelems of nature which, attracted me, yet frightened me as a child.

Today mt question is was  God’s messageto create fear or was the purpose more  of that as a loving parent laying forth a plan to teach his children how to have a good life?

Perhaps it was a little of both.

The 10 Commandments were such an important part of God’s plan that they appear twice in the Old Testament in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5.

His word serves to remind us of our frailties as human beings and His word brings us lessons that if we are truthful, loval and and loving, we will have hope and love in return.

In the list of the Commandments in Exodus 20-1 it says;

  1. “I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.
  2. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
  3. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
  4. “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
  5. “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
  6. “You shall not murder.
  7. “You shall not commit adultery.
  8. “You shall not steal.
  9. “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
  10. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

All are very powerful messages spoken directly to the Jews, commanding them to hear his word, calling them to obedience in His name isand at the same timewarning them there would be a price to pay if his word was not honored.

It all sound like pretty scary stuff….   A jealous and venegeful God extracting his displeasureon us every step of the way? Or perhaps  as a devfoted,  parent who shields his children from those who wish them harm?

To me,  my God is an all loving God, and although HE never forgets our falling from grace he forgivess us our sins.

God IS love!

Enough said…

Small Minds

small minds

When I saw this picture, I was reminded of this quote;

“Dignity
/ˈdignitē/ noun

1. The moment you realize that the person you cared for has nothing intellectually or spiritually to offer you, but a headache.

2. The moment you realize God had greater plans for you that don’t involve crying at night or sad Pinterest quotes.

3. The moment you stop comparing yourself to others because it undermines your worth, education and your parent’s wisdom.

4. The moment you live your dreams, not because of what it will prove or get you, but because that is all you want to do. People’s opinions don’t matter.

5. The moment you realize that no one is your enemy, except yourself.

6. The moment you realize that you can have everything you want in life. However, it takes timing, the right heart, the right actions, the right passion and a willingness to risk it all. If it is not yours, it is because you really didn’t want it, need it or God prevented it.

7. The moment you realize the ghost of your ancestors stood between you and the person you loved. They really don’t want you mucking up the family line with someone that acts anything less than honorable.

8. The moment you realize that happiness was never about getting a person. They are only a helpmate towards achieving your life mission.

9. The moment you believe that love is not about losing or winning. It is just a few moments in time, followed by an eternity of situations to grow from.

10. The moment you realize that you were always the right person. Only ignorant people walk away from greatness.”
Shannon L. Alder

it is been said that a picture is worth 1000 words.  I think this picture and this quote are the perfect pair.  Each says the same thing, but in a different way.  The image is abstract, but the message is clear.

The verbiage is short, but to the point.  How many times have you been told not to dream?  Young children are special because they live in a world of imagination.  They think about possibilities.  They are creative – they dream.

Growing up we are taught to dream less, conform more be concerned about what the neighbors will think.  Our once expensive dreams, wants and desires get shoved into a little box.

How many times have you been taught not to reach for the stars, but to settle for less?

Why would you ever settle for less when you can have it all?

You really can have it all. “If” you ask intelligently and for what you need.

How many times have you compromised yourself to get something for someone you wanted?

I’ve done it myself.  I have compromised, settled, independent my dreams to please others rather than pleasing myself.  I’m not talking about being selfish.  Being miserly with your material goods as well as your self does not serve anyone including oneself.

A door that is closed and locked can either provide entry war allow egress.  We closed and locked doors out of fear.  Not talking about the doors on your car or on your home they need to be locked to keep out those who would do us harm.

When we close the doors to our inner self. We are telling the world that we are afraid.  God does not want us to live in fear.  God wants us to live a full inspired life.

Be brave, dared to dream and although you may fall and skin your knee have the courage to stand up for what you believe.  Don’t let small minds tell you are not worthy.  Don’t let those fearful people tell you you are not great – you are

It’s my responsibility – It Starts with me

“Everybody has to start somewhere. You have your whole future ahead of you. Perfection doesn’t happen right away.”
Haruki Murakami, Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman

Think about it for a moment… . Everything in the world starts and ends with you.

It’s true

When  you are just starting out, you are directed a starting point and given a choice.  In the case of an infant learning to walk your parent may support you while you first learn to stand.

Many times you fail and many times you fall to your knees, but you get up.

To move forward in life you need to have the desire to succeed, to grow and learn.  You need to be ready to take responsibility in your life it all depends on you.

Being responsible is the key

Here is a song I really like by Tim Timmons that puts your life in proper perspective/ It’s called “Starts me.”

I hope you have a listen and like what you hear.

Remember it all starts with you,
